You know, I was pleasantly surprised with this book. First, I have never read anything by Sara Zook. Second, when I realized this book was about an Amish man, I was somewhat hesitant because I was not sure how I could like this.
This book was a really quick read. It’s not terribly long, dual POV’s make things move pretty quick as well.
This book is about Evanna. She ends up in small town in Pennsylvania with her worthless boyfriend. She’s not happy with the way her life has turned out and desperately wants to leave.
One day she meets Gideon, and from that moment she is drawn to him. Gideon is Amish, and different from any man she has known. He lives with his parents and mentally handicapped brother, and is “engaged” to another Amish girl. However, once he meets Evanna, he begins to question everything he has known in the Amish community. He does not like the way they judge her based on her looks or religious preference. He wants to still be part of the community AND have her with him. But that will never be allowed.
Their relationship moves quickly, and the end result is Gideon being shunned from his community. It was an inevitable outcome, one that you know is coming from the get go. I hated that for him, but it was a choice he made to be with Evanna. And really, can we go wrong when we follow our hearts?
The only thing that I did not like was this book wasn’t long enough. Honestly, I would have loved more development regarding their relationship but what little we did get was beautiful.
