When snowboard queen Kaitlin Bouvier gets a weird text from her friend Tyler—who has been missing for months—she tracks him to Iceland, where a volcano is threatening to blow any second. She’s been in love with Tyler since childhood and the two shared a few very steamy nights last summer in Italy, giving Kaitlin hope that there might be a real chance for them.
Unfortunately, Tyler is as elusive as the wind. When the volcano does erupt, Kaitlin is trapped in Reykjavik with a group of young travelers who each have their own reasons for being on the road, including the very sexy, very smart grad student Gabe Walsh, who teaches her how hot her blood can boil. She tells herself he’s just a diversion—there’s no way their crazy lives can work.
My dad was a military man and he and my mother traveled a lot before my sisters and I were born. They always told us how beautiful Iceland was and when I read the description of this book I instantly knew I had to have it.
The story follows Kaitlin, a professional snowboarder, as she sets off to find her friend Tyler and her path in life really – while running into a hot geophysicist named Gabe (who is dreamy) in Iceland and having lots of fun and hot sexy times along the way. Oh and there is a volcano that erupts which strands everyone.
First let me start off with.. I read a lot. I mean, A LOT. Usually I can find something within a book that sparks my interest and I can hang onto that and it keeps me going until the end. I struggled with Extreme. I liked most everything about it. But nothing about the story just snagged me. The characters were good, but not great. The story was steady but I found my mind wandering. I think maybe this has something to do with my age (im 39). My mind is wanting to put this in the YA category but with good sexy times. I think if i were in my early 20s, I might have enjoyed this much more. I want to blame myself because really looking at the book as a whole, its beautifully written. I can tell the author is good, she knows her stuff. Its just…me. 😦
My opinion only.. I give Extreme 3 WickedGoodStars. I liked it, but I didnt love it. I do however appreciate the opportunity to read and review the book.
